Diana Lorraine
Duncan
was born in New Orleans in the south of the United States.
When she was 5 yers old, she decided to move to Guatemala with
her family. |

Tomas
Cernikovsky
was born in Chrudim, in eastern Bohemia. When he was less
than one year old, he decided to move to Prague with his family. |
 |
 |
Lorraine
grew up in Guatemala. Tomas grew up
in Prague |
|
|
When
Lorraine was 15, her family moved back to New Orleans. She
had to learn English all over again. She also learnt to
love New Orleans. |
|
|
When
Tomas was 19, he moved to London and had to learn better English
than what High School in Prague taught him. He also learnt
to love London. |
|
|
Lorraine
went to High School and University in New Orleans. But
when she was 21, she moved alone to Guatemala, leaving her
family in New Orleans, where her mother and two brothers live.
Lorraine
and her husband started their own carpet business. She has three children and six grandchildren. Her husband
Roberto died 20 years ago.

|
Tomas
went to the University in London. His parents moved from
Prague to Germany, where his mother lives in Cologne.
Tomas lived in London for 10 years, worked for Reuters and in
business consulting and publishing. After a
year in Canada, he moved to New York. He worked for Reuters another 20+ years,
and moved to Guatemala in 2002. He has two children. He was divorced on
February 8, 2013. |

 |
Lorraine and
Tomas met THE NEXT DAY, February 9, 2013, at the house of
friends in San Pedro el Alto and went to a concert in the main
square in Antigua that evening.
They liked the concert and
each other, so had a lunch a couple of days later. A few
more concerts and a few more lunches followed, as they got to
know each ether, little by little. |
|
 |
Since then,
they have travelled to Tikal, Havana, Boston (to see the
"Rolling Stones"), New York 3x, London 2x, Cologne 2x, Rome 2x,
New Orleans 12x, L.A., Roatan and Barcelona, Paris, Madrid, Scandinavia,
around Germany, Italy, Holland & France. They saw a
ballet in Budapest and listened to "Carmen" in Prague. |
 |
 |
Since that
first concert, they have heard concerts in Venice, Amsterdam,
Guatemala City and Vienna, operas in New York and London.
They saw "Swan Lake' in Lincoln Center in NYC and again on Lake
Chapultepec in Mexico City. In all cities that we visit, we
light up candles in churches and say "Thank you, Mr.God",
because surely it was he who made Lorraine stop the car on the
way out that first day lunch, so that Tomas could invite her to
that concert. It's all Werner's and Maria Elena's fault. |
